FRITZ MERISE
Merise was born in Port-au-Prince in 1946. His father was a farmer and his mother a shopkeeper.
He had already taught himself to paint by the time he
completed high school. In a
Japanese book, there’s one of my tap-taps with the words “Man
not like God.” If an animal stands up it can move like a man, so
I painted animals acting like men. I am not making fun of humans, there is no moral in these
stories.”
